Time for South Africa's richest knockout tournament for the 20111/2012 season has arrived. Yes, its Nedbank draw time. Ke yona! The draw was conducted by the organisers in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning and has once again brought out the David v Goliath battles.
Many will remember the exploits of the likes of Baroka FC who caused a stir in South African football last season by accounting for the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows on their way to the semi-finals where they were eventually knocked out by Black Leopards.
Interesting fixtures, as usual, are those involving big name clubs like Chiefs and defending champions Orlando Pirates.
Chiefs have been paired against Cape Town All Stars while Pirates begin the defence of their cup title against Vodacom side Ethekwini Coastal FC.
Gauteng’s Vardos FC will play the winner between Umthatha Liverpool or A1 Stars FC from the Eastern Cape in a play-off match. Vardos or the play-off winner will then meet United FC in the last 32.
The winners of the Cup collect a cheque of R6 million in prize money and with it the ticket to represent South Africa in the CAF Confederations Cup next year.
Teams listed first will be at home.
