Manchester City increased their lead on top of the English Barclays Premier Soccer League over closest rivals Manchester United to three points following a hard fought 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Monday evening away at the DW Stadium.
City needed Edin Dzeko to rescue maximum points mid-way through the opening half. Thereafter, the log leaders fought to hold onto their slender lead.
The Bosnian flicked brilliantly a well weighted free-kick by enterprising Brazillian midfielder David Silva to give City the victory.
Wigan were by no means out-played and embarrassed by their more fancied opponents on the night. They had chances of their own out which they could have fashioned something for their home fans.
James McArthur and James McCarthy had opportunities to put the hosts level in the first half, while Victor Moses squandered a chance in the second half.
Defeat means Wigan remain rooted at the bottom, while City have clawed their way back into control at the summit of the log.
