Zimbabwe national soccer team coach Norman MAPEZA on Tuesday named a provisional squad out of whic he will finalise the final 18 players expected o do duty for the country in an important African Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia on 4 September at home.
A surprise inclusion in the squad is that of injured Knowledge Musona. The TSG 1899 Hoffenheim striker was injured during training at his club on Wednesday, on a day that the Warriors beat Zambia 2-0 . He is expected to recover in three weeks.
In the squad are the two new Kaizer Chiefs signings, midfielder Willard Katsande and defender Lincoln Zvasiya. The two Warriors stars were signed early this week by the Naturena club, the biggest single footballing brand in South Africa.
Nyasha Mushekwi and Thomas Sweswe who are suspended for the Liberia match are obviously not part of the squad. In the absence of the Mamelodi Sundowns hitman, Edward Sadomba is expected to spearhead Zimbabwe's attack.
The Ajax versatile attacking midfielder Khama Billiat, who can also operate as a second striker appears to be a sure bet to partner Sadomba upfront or just behind the big Al Hilal striker. His team mate at Ajax Tafadzwa Rusike is back in the reckoning.
In-form France-based Ovidy Karuru and Denmark Superliga midfielder Quincy Antipas are part of the squad named by Mapeza.
