Nhamoinesu scores in Europa, Sparta into group stages

Costa Nhamoinesu celebrates a goal in Europe

Zimbabwe senior national soccer team defender Costa Nhamoinesu scored in the UEFA Europa league final qualifying round 2015/2016 on Thursday night to help his Czech Republic club Sparta Praha qualify for the Europa League Group stages.

Nhamoinesu scored Sparta's third and equalising goal in the 71st minute to force a 3-3 draw away at Thun in Swizterland to leave the aggregate scores at 6-4 in favour of the Czech Republic club. With that result, the Czech giants are now through to the group stages of the competition.

Sparta won the first leg at home at the Generali Arena 3-1, with Nhamoinesu scoring the home side's equaliser in the 43rd minute after the visiting Thun had taken a 5th minute lead.

Now the Warriors' defender and his team mates will now compete in the Europa group stages for the 2015/2016 season. Having been placed in Group K of the Europa League's 12 groups, Sparta will compete against three other clubs from three different UEFA nations/members.

Other members of Group K are APOEL FC of Greece, Cypriot side Asteras Tripolis and Schalke 04 from Germany's Bundesliga.

Winners from the 12 Europa league group stages will compete in the final group stages to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Sparta Praha's qualification for Europa group stages is good news for Zimbabwe as this expose Nhamoinesu to competitive European club football.   The Warriors defender is a key player for Sparta Praha and has scored two Europa goals in 2 matches. His goal scoring form has been very good for his club.

Warriors coach Calisto Pasuwa will hope that the defender carries this great form into the match against Guinea next weekend in Harare.
