Bafana Bafana and Supersport captain in the past season Morgan Gould has officially joined Gauteng glamour club Kaizer Chiefs, after signing on the dotted lines for 4-years.
The capture of the prized defender was confirmed by Chiefs' Football Manager Bobby Motaung who is ecstatic about having signed a player who is more than just a player.
“We are delighted we have acquired the services of Morgan Gould. His
ability to read the game, his interception, height, heading and jumping
ability and the knack of scoring important goals makes him one of the
best defenders in the country.
"Morgan as a regular in the national team and a captain at SuperSport
United brings more than just play but also leadership to the team,” said
Motaung. It was an open secret that the national team defender had played his final match for Supersport in their 2-0 Nedbank Cup final triumph over Tshwane derby rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon.
At the end of the match, Gould was all emotional and had an under shirt blazoned "THANK YOU", as he obviously bade farewell to the Amatsatsantsa-a-Pitoli supporters. What a befitting closure to his very fruitful and eventful more than 5-year stay at Supersport United.
Born 29 years ago on 23 March 1983, Gould played 81 matches for Jomo Cosmos between 2001 and 2008, before leaving Ezenkosi to join Supersport in 2008. He has played more than 100 games for Supersport and has won the league on two occasions with Supersport, and has now added the Nedbank Cup to the list of medals in his cabinet.
Gould has been a Bafana regular and has represented South Africa on more than 20 times.
He definitely brings a wealthy of experience and leadership to Amakhosi. Chiefs have always needed a player who has height and good reading of the game to complete defenders such as Lincoln Zvasiya, whose average height cried out for a reliable big defender as a partner.
Tefu Mashamaite has the height, but always lacks the good reading of the game that Gould will bring to Naturena. The team has also struggled to have good leadership within the back four ever since Valery Nahayo, Gould's partner at Cosmos, left for Belgium a season ago.
Gould once attracted the interest of English Championship club Crystal Palace and attended trials last year, but his dream of moving to Europe did not materialise.
