Interim Zimbabwe national senior soccer team coach Rahman Gumbo has named an enlarged Warriors squad that has limited time to train together before the beginning of their World Cup qualifiers in June and the Africa Cup of Nations 2013 qualifiers.
A squad of 30 players was named on Wednesday and is expected to join camp on 22 May. The names of veteran striker Takesure Chinyama and England-based Bradley Pritchard have generated interest.
Other names that will please many fans are those of returning stars such as South Africa-based Khama Billiat, Willard Katsande and Oscar Machapa and that of France-based Ovidy Karuru whose blacklisting was recently lifted up by ZIFA after the Ethics Committee investigating match-fixing allegations involving many Zimbabwean players found no evidence against the players.
There were also names of players who have been showing great promise on the local front like Simon Munawa of Highlanders and Rodwell Chinyengetere of Hwange. The absence of Shabanie Mine's Nelson Maziwisa is a big surprise though.
